In 1966, Sichelschmidt developed the first electric forklift truck designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Since then – for almost 60 years – we have been among the leading manufacturers in this demanding field of materials handling technology.

Our forklift trucks are manufactured in accordance with the current ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and meet the requirements for operation in gas explosion zones 1 and 2 (categories 2G / 3G) as well as dust explosion zones 21 and 22 (categories 2D / 3D).

On request, we also manufacture trucks compliant with international explosion protection standards, such as the IECEx system, or with U.S. requirements (Class I / Division 1 and Division 2 according to NEC 500/505).

Explosion-Protected Forklift Trucks for Zones 1 and 21

For applications with increased explosion risk

In Zone 1 (Gas-Ex), an explosive atmosphere – a mixture of air and flammable gases, vapors, or mists – may occasionally occur during normal operation. This is common in areas such as the chemical industry, paint and coating production, refineries, or hazardous goods storage.

For these critical environments, Sichelschmidt offers a wide range of electric forklift trucks in Category 2G according to ATEX 2014/34/EU – from pedestrian pallet trucks to four-wheel counterbalance models.

These series are also available for Zone 21 (Dust-Ex) applications.
Forklift trucks for Zone 21 (Category 2D) are used where, during normal operation, an explosive dust atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust may occasionally occur.

This applies to industries such as food and feed production, wood processing, plastics manufacturing, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Explosion-Protected Forklift Trucks for Zones 2 and 22

For areas with lower explosion risk

In Zone 2 and Zone 22, an explosive atmosphere normally occurs only rarely and for short periods of time. Therefore, the constructive measures required for explosion protection can be adapted accordingly.

As a specialist in explosion-protected materials handling equipment, Sichelschmidt also offers a complete range of warehouse equipment and counterbalance forklift trucks in Category 3G / 3D, with load capacities up to 3,500 kg.
